2018 Kia Sorento SUV Receives Top Safety Pick+ Rating from the IIHS

September 1st, 2017 by

Late last month, it was reported that the 2018 Kia Sorento SUV had been awarded a 2017 Top Safety Pick+ Rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This award was granted to 2018 Sorento models built after May 2017 that are equipped with headlights that recently earned an acceptable rating from the IIHS; the headlights are offered for the SX Limited trim and the SX trim when it includes the Advanced Technology package.

The highest accolade granted by the IIHS, a Top Safety Pick+ rating lets consumers know that the vehicle offers them the highest level of crash protection. To earn the rating, vehicles must earn a “good” rating in five crashworthiness tests: small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side impact, roof strength and head restraints. Also, a vehicle must be rated either “advanced” or “superior” for front crash prevention and also earn an “acceptable” or “good” rating in headlight tests.

The 2018 Sorento SUV, which is built in West Point, GA, offers the utiity, refinement and technology owners crave, including available advanced driver assistance systems like Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning and Advanced Smart Cruise Control.

In a press release, Orth Hedrick, Vice President, Product Planning, Kia Motors America, commented, “Kia’s commitment to building durable, capable vehicles is underscored by Sorento receiving this tremendous safety accolade. The highest possible safety rating from IIHS for Sorento bookends the recent J.D. Power Initial Quality award.”
