Kia Leads Initial Quality Study

July 3rd, 2017 by

J.D. Power announced recently that Kia Motors is the highest-ranking brand in their 2017 Initial Quality Study (IQS), the second straight year that Kia has earned the honor.

Kia posted the lowest number of problems over the last 20 years of the study, and led all manufacturers with five vehicles earning segment awards:

  • Soul, Compact Multi-Purpose Vehicle
  • Forte, Compact Car
  • Cadenza, Large Car
  • Niro, Small SUV
  • Sorento, Midsize SUV

This is the third straight year that the Kia Soul won an IQS award, while the Cadenza and Niro each won an award in their first model year. In fact, the Cadenza earned the top score among all vehicles in the study!

The report compiles more than 75,000 responses to assess 243 vehicles in 26 segments, evaluating them on driving experience, performance and any quality problems reported by owners.

In a press release, Michael Sprague, Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President, Kia Motors America, commented, “When Kia beat out the entire industry in last year’s J.D. Power Initial Quality Study many people wondered if we could maintain such a lofty position. Today, the answer is loud and clear as Kia owns the top spot for the second straight year with more 2017 segment award winners than any other nameplate. Our back-to-back chart-topping IQS performances reconfirm Kia’s status as today’s world-class automaker and reflect the exacting standards and craftsmanship our team members instill into every car, crossover and SUV Kia builds.”
