Tire Tread Levels Can Be Checked with a Penny

October 19th, 2016 by

There are a lot of way any driver can test their vehicle’s overall health, and here at Gene Messer Kia, we’ve explained them many times on our blog. One thing we all can do is check our tire tread levels. Tires with too much tread wear can cause you to lose grip on the road, and lead to unsafe driving, but to see if you need new tires or are still good to drive on them, all you need is a penny.

  • Take a penny and put it in between the tread of your tires with Abraham Lincoln’s head going down toward the tread
  • If Lincoln’s head disappears, that means your tread is good, and you are fine
  • If you are able to see all of Lincoln’s head, that means you are in need or some new tires

Feel free to stop in and see us here in our service center and we’d be happy to answer any questions, as well as discuss the different tire options you have, and install them for you.
